California Dreamin

When the summers get too hot in Arizona, there's California Dreamin' to get your mind off the heat. This mini-series was painted in Costa Mesa, just outside of San Diego, CA. The palm tree lineup was wind-tossed and the weather was fabulous. I enjoyed working in acrylics on this piece; the immediacy of the medium makes for a fast-action painting. I can't wait to go back!

This Triptych, each 12x4, is painted top, bottom, and sides as well as the front. Though they can be hung alone, they were painted together, and are shown here placed next to each other with a wee bit of space between. When hung this way they occupy roughly 12 x 12" of space. The challenge here is getting the painting to make sense when viewed slightly from the side as well as from the front. I'm enamored of triptychs and working in series; the challenge of consistency and continuity coupled with attempting to make each piece interesting in its own right is fascinating to me.
